Varna Pranayama – A self-therapy with the color
Here is a very simple technique,
through which you can turn your negative attitude into a
positive one, and “recharge the batteries” by taking the
universal energy (prana) to revitalize the nervous system and
the physical level.
Lie on the floor in the relaxing position (savasana), favoring,
with the coming on of the immobility, the slow down of the
physical, emotional and mental activities.
I stated before that, when we’re ready for this kind of
practices, it would be better to choose a comfortable and silent
location. It would be better do not lie under the sun during the
hottest hours. In case of necessity you can cover yourself. It’s
good to bear in mind that, during the relaxation, there is a
slow down of the blood circulation and a droop in blood pressure
that bring to a general sensation of cold. Keep the mind quiet
but in full awareness.
Contemplate you breath: be the “spectators” of the air that goes
into your nostrils and that, going through the nasal cavities,
goes down into the lungs. Observe then the opposite movement.
Continue until you are so absorbed by this movement to become
the breath itself and feel that every other perception first
goes on a secondary level and then disappears. Be aware only of
the “blow”, nothing else. Soon you’ll benefit from a pleasant
aesthetic state.
At this point try to bring out of memory your favorite color.
Your favorite “psychic” color, not the one everyone of us would
choose in that moment to get dressed, linked to the emotional
changes, but the deep color that belongs to the essential and
constant nature, not liable for changes. In the state of
absorbing the practice brought you in, it’s easy to find it into
yourselves.
Develop that image until it becomes real, concrete, and usable
by your inner senses. Try to clear it by making your favorite
color a bit brighter than how you visualized it. Now imagine
that everything, for example the world of objects around you and
even the air you breathe, is made of your color. In a sense it’s
like if what you can see is seen through a filter and you’re
breathing colored air.
The air, through your nostrils, goes down into the throat, then
into the lungs and these organs become colored of your favorite
color, enlightened from your previous effort. Then the air will
not exist anymore, but you’re moving, through your breath, a
colored flux guiding it into your body, in the abdomen area, in
the solar plexus.
Hold without effort your breath, keeping yourself concentrated
in this point and then breathe out. After some breathing, keep
moving the colored flux and bringing it to the solar plexus,
but, while you hold the air, an imaginary spiral, starting from
the belly button, extends itself to cover the whole abdomen
area. Breathe out normally. Repeat it now and again but then,
during the breathing out, imagine pushing the colored flux from
the belly button to the body’s periphery, in all directions.
Insist until you reach a real sensation of total saturation.
In the imagination, your body, as a container, has to be
completely saturated of that color. Still insist, always in the
same way: breathe in colored air bringing it to the solar plexus
and, while you are holding, imagine the spiral in expansion from
your belly-button to the all abdomen surface; when you breathe
out, imagine pushing it from the solar plexus in all directions
to the body’s periphery; obtained a perfect saturation, imagine
it going out the skin’s pores, so that it pushes outside what
you didn’t color, that is your residual negativity.
This is a complete process of psychophysical purification. As
soon as you feel tired, stop the self-suggestion process and go
back to the consciousness raising of the spontaneous and natural
breath, of your body and its position. Before starting to slowly
and gradually leave the position, “manifest” your conscience
becoming aware of the noises that comes in from outside and of
the room in which you are.
Stop and listen to them without analyzing them: it’s the sound
of life all around you. Then go back to your body’s conscience
and take little movements: first move the feet’s fingers, then
the hands’ ones, turn your head to the right and then to the
left and finally find the spontaneous movements that your body
wants to do in that moment and go along with it. Now sit down
and take a rest to normalize the blood pressure and then stand
up. After correctly performed this practice, you can notice that
mind’s content is changed and positively renewed.
